Shani and Saturn - Vedic perspectives

In Vedic astrology, Saturn is a living being. Lord Shani rules the day Saturday.
Lord Shani, is regarded as cold, earthy, masculine and dry, but ironically is  the son of the fiery, hot, energetic Sun. Shani's mother is Chaya.. shadow.

Even in Roman mythology,
Saturn is considered to be earthy, as Saturn is the god of agriculture and rules the day Saturday.
Shani is regarded as  governing age, longevity, discipline, ancestors, asceticism, restriction.
He is at the same time considered to rule hidden wealth, endurance, mental and moral courage, patience etc.
Lord Shani cannot easily be placated by the mere purchase of  expensive gems, or yantras etc., nor by mantras uttered carelessly, without any sense of involvement, or  by someone other than you on your behalf. If you feel you really want to propiate Shani maharaj, to ward of his ill effects, then take a little time to comprehend and work out ( act in accordance) with what you are trying to convey by the mantras.
You must chant on your mala - beads the Shani dev's root mantra (Om pram prim proum sah shanishcharaya namah…)108 times  on a Saturday but preferably every day. And once you have  committed yourself to do this, then don't chant or recite it in a torrent-rush way.Take time, in a  slow, deliberate way......because Shani Maharaj is himself slow and deliberate.
