Shani Maharaj ki jai!

Shani dev is known to be a strict disciplinarian, but at the same time he should be considered more of an educator who has the interests of his followers close to his heart. Why I say this is, because we should not simply, blindly follow the dictum of his teachings; rather we should try and understand the underlying implicit meaning of his teachings. For example, when it is said that we should feed crows, give atta (wheat-flour) to ants, pour water at the base of Peepal ( ficus tree), etc. then our aim should not be to merely follow these. We have to understand that it is being suggested that we stay in harmony with nature. We are very fond of having showy plants in our garden, we nurture them with a lot of love and care, but in the process we might neglect the other plants and trees. Hence the need to take care of trees like Peepal. Also, we love to have parrots, love-birds and other pretty or useful birds in our homes/ surroundings. But who will bother about the poor crow? Or, who will bother about the 'pesty' ant? We should not forget that these too are living creatures, they too have a right to exist on earth. We take pride in calling ourselves superior to animals, so we should also be empathetic to the existence of the lesser mortals around us.
Hence, the need to take care of nature and nurture it.

Om Sah Shanishcharaya Namah! Jai ho Shani Maharaj ki!
